The department recognises that training is a particularly challenging time and the department has 2 welfare officers who oversee a mentoring system to ensure trainees are able to utilize extensive available resources if this is required.

The department provides an end of clinical placement dinner for all trainees and senior medical staff to recognise the extra efforts that have been provided, every 6 months and end of year family orientated event leading up to the holiday season.​
