All clinical placements in anaesthesia for trainees in Emergency Medicine are organised through the Department of Emergency Medicine at Western Health.

The department provides training in anaesthesia for Intensive Care Trainees. Generally the 12 months of clinical placements required as part of CICM training is split over 2 years with clinical placements in intensive care at Western Health. The department is proud of its reputation as a leader in education and training. It has played an important role in the development of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) 2013 curriculum and has an impressive track record in supporting trainees through the examination process.
Services and Clinics
The department provides 5 hours per week in hours structured tutorial programs for anaesthesia trainees preparing for the ANZCA Initial Assessment of Anaesthetic Competence (IAAC), Primary and Final examinations. The Primary program is conducted with the collaboration of other departments within the North-western training program. Staff also support trainees through providing feedback on trial written examinations and conducting realistic mock vivas for the medical and anaesthesia vivas.
