About the awards

The Western Health INSPIRE Awards recognise employees and volunteers – both individuals and teams – whose actions inspire others to live our values.

These awards are a simple way of saying thank you to someone who has made a difference to your day or to the experience of a patient, visitor or colleague.

We invite patients, visitors, staff members and volunteers to promote a positive and respectful workplace by nominating someone for an INSPIRE award.

What you can nominate for

You can nominate someone for demonstrating any of our below values:

  • Compassion – consistently acting with empathy and integrity

    • Improving the experience of patients and others.

  • Accountability – taking responsibility for our decisions and actions

    • Taking responsibility for standards of care or service.
    • Being positive and productive.
    • Using resources responsibly.

  • Respect – for the rights, beliefs and choice of every individual

    • Treating everyone with respect and dignity.
    • Recognising and respecting diversity.
    • Addressing poor behaviour and not simply ‘walking past’.

  • Excellence – inspiring and motivating, innovation and achievement

    • Demonstrating high standards of work.
    • Helping others learn and improve.
    • Working well with others, across the system.

  • Safety – prioritising safety as an essential part of everyday practice

    • Looking out for the safety of others.

How to Nominate Someone for an INSPIRE Award

It’s easy to nominate a person or team for an INSPIRE Award.

  • Nominations open every March and remain open for four weeks.
  • A nomination form will be available on this page in March 2026.

How to Submit a Successful Nomination

To ensure your nomination stands out:

  • Describe their impact—what did they do that made a difference for you or others? Provide clear examples and as much detail as possible.
  • Address the award criteria:
    • How did they contribute to fostering a positive workplace?
    • How did they demonstrate the values of Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Excellence, and Safety?
