Western Health provides specialist Stomal Therapy Nursing services to support patients with an abdominal stoma.

A stoma is a surgically created opening within the body surface that helps drain bodily products that would usually be removed by the bowel or bladder.

Our Stomal Therapy CNC works across three hospitals to assist with stoma care, education, and support before and after surgery.

What we do

  • Appliance selection and fitting
  • Education and self-management training
  • Support with skin care and complications
  • Assistance with discharge planning and referrals

The service works closely with surgeons, dietitians, wound care nurses and other members of the patient’s healthcare team.
