Western Continence Services

Western Health's Continence Services offers expert care for urinary and bowel control issues - assessment, treatment, and self-management support in Sunshine, Williamstown, and Sunbury.

What we do

The Continence Service helps people to control their urine or bowel movements. We encourage self-care when possible.

The Continence team includes nurses, physiotherapists, and doctors.

Services and facilities

  • Continence assessment
  • Uroflowmetry and simple bladder ultrasonography
  • Urodynamic investigation 

 

  • Conservative management strategies including:
    • Advice about daily living with incontinence problems
    • Bladder training
    • Pelvic floor assessment and muscle rehabilitation (including biofeedback and electrical stimulation)
    • Bowel management. 

 

  • Assessment for continence aids and appliances programs including:
    • Statewide Equipment Program
    • Continence Aids Assistance Scheme
    • Department of Veteran Affairs funding 

 

  • Surgical or other specialist referral if appropriate
  • Liaison with other continence services
  • Liaison with other appropriate departments and service providers

 

Who this service is for

Adults with bladder and bowel problems.

  • Brimbank
  • Hobsons Bay
  • Maribyrnong
  • Wyndham
  • Shire of Melton.

Referrals

Ask your medical doctor to fill in a Continence referral form [PDF, 159 KB]. Medical doctors include specialists, general practitioners and hospital departments.

Locations

Sunshine Hospital

  • The service is in the Specialised Rehabilitation Program building.
  • The entrance is to the far right of the main hospital entrance towards the freeway.
  • Go through the glass doors and check in at reception.

 

Williamstown Hospital

  • The service is in the Specialised Rehabilitation Program building.
  • Go in at the Stewart Street entrance.
  • Check in at reception desk.

Sunbury Community Hospital

  • The service is in the main hospital.
  • Go in by the front doors.
  • Check in at reception.
