The 1A team provides an excellent service to the inpatient population of Western Health. The ward is proud to have a dedicated group of people working cohesively to provide a service that not only recognises the cultural diversity of the community but can also address their needs as an individual. Ward 1A provides immense learning opportunities to everyone within our departments, giving staff the opportunity to develop both personally and professionally.

Admissions Patient Journey

All patients attending Ward 1A are admitted through Emergency or are patients needing to stay in hospital to recover from surgery.

Visiting Hours

Visiting hours on Ward 1A are between 2.00pm and 8.00pm. If visitors want to visit outside of these hours they must speak with the nurse in charge.

Visiting Hours

The patient will be met by a member of the nursing team who will monitor the patient from admission to discharge and make sure that they receive the right care during their stay in hospital.

Nursing staff will talk with the patient about their medical condition to make sure that nothing has changed significantly since the last time the patient was in hospital.​


 

Work Area

Ward 1A is a 30 beds surgical ward.

The surgical units are:

  • General Surgical
  • Orthopaedic
  • Plastics/ENT

This comprises of both elective and emergency admissions and adult case mix.


 

Discharge Process

Before going home, patients will receive from their post surgery care information, follow up appointments and an education pamphlet from the Discharge Nurse. Once the patient is ready and a friend/relative has arrived they will then be discharged. All patients should be discharged by 10.00am.
