Home Therapies Training Service

The home therapies training service (HTS) is located at Sunshine Hospital.  Patients nearing end stage kidney disease are referred to HTS for renal replacement therapy (RRT) education and assessment for home dialysis suitability. 

The primary aim for Western Health Renal Service is to ensure that every effort possible is made to allow all our patients access to the best therapy, and this is a pre-emptive renal transplant or if not possible, a home dialysis therapy.

The HTS unit is staffed by specialist nurses in tune with the needs of patients who are attending to their dialysis therapy at home.  In conjunction with a project officer, the nursing staff are currently involved in the HUG project, supported by a successful grant from the Department of Health Renal Health Clinical Network. We are also excited to be one of only seven sites involved in the KHA CARI Home Therapies Guidelines implementation project quality of life assessment, Australia-wide.

The Home Therapies utilising Tele-Health Guidance and Monitoring Project  (HUG Project) is an initiative of the Renal Services Department utilising the latest in tele-health technology to give new patients the confidence to choose a home modality and to closely monitor and support patient on home dialysis.  Working as part of the Home Therapies team we will deliver an improved standard of care to home dialysis patients.
