Western Health Charity Golf Day a swinging success

13 Jul 2023

Western Health Foundation hosted a successful Charity Golf Day on Friday April 28, raising over $112,000 towards purchasing a new point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) machine which will provide lifesaving support to babies admitted to our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

The event saw golfers hit the course at Medway Golf Club in Maribyrnong, enjoying a day of competition and camaraderie, united by the common goal to raise funds for Western Health.

After the competition was over, players and guests enjoyed a sit-down networking lunch emceed by Lehmo Lehmann. Dr Penny Kee provided a heartfelt explanation of how the POCUS machine can help save the lives of our smallest and sickest babies.

On behalf of the Western Health Foundation, Board Chair Glenn Hay would like to thank our corporate partners and supporters in attendance for making this day a great success.

"Our annual Golf Day was an enjoyable event and it was great to see our corporate partners and supporters in attendance making this day a great success. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our corporate partners and supporters who generously contributed to the Foundation raising $112,302.99 towards our $154,000 target for the POCUS Machine. With the combination of our annual tax appeal and golf day we are delighted to confirm that we have raised sufficient funds to order the machine. The machine is expected to be fully operational within the next couple months. Again, many thanks on behalf of the Foundation for your ongoing support"

Glenn Hay, Western Health Foundation Board Chair

All proceeds from the event will go towards purchasing a POCUS machine which is used to easily and safely scan the vital organs of premature babies. It's another way that Western Health is providing best care for patients in Melbourne's west.

Last year more than 6,500 babies were born at Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s Unit at Sunshine Hospital. Almost one third of these newborns required increased or lifesaving support.
