Referrals need to be addressed to a named clinician.
Clinic Description This clinic provides a rapid assessment (within 2 weeks) for patients with diabetes requiring specialist review.

Patients are reviewed in this clinic a maximum of 4 times. Patients are either discharged back to their GP for ongoing management or referred to the general diabetes clinic.
Inclusion criteria

Patients requiring rapid (within 2 week) assessment by a specialist regarding diabetes complications.

  • Type 1 diabetes
  • Complex Type 2 diabetes, e.g.:
    • Diabetic complications
    • Type 2 diabetes on maximal oral agents with suboptimal control
  • Steroid-induced diabetes
  • Unstable diabetes (e.g. significant hypoglycaemia, marked swings in glucose levels)
Exclusion criteria

Patients with:

  • Gestational diabetes (managed through the Obstetric Endocrinology clinic)
  • Diet-controlled Type 2 diabetes
