Western Health M​​​edical Imaging (WHMI) is one of the most advanced Diagnostic Imaging services in the West.​​​​​ The  range of Diagnostic Services include:

  • CT
  • MRI
  • Ultrasound
  • Nuclear Medicine
  • Fluoroscopy
  • X-ray
  • Angiography
  • OPG
  • Mammography​

 

Referrals

WHMI has referrals forms set up to be printed direct from GP software. However, WHMI accepts all referral request forms. Medical Imaging results are available within 24hrs from scan and electronic distribution of reports are available via Healthlink direct to the referrer's practice.

At WHMI the facilities are licensed under the Medicare agreement. WHMI provides bulk billing (with no out-of-pocket costs) to all patients with a referral that complies with Medicare guidelines.​

Western Health Nuclear Medicine has recently introduced a new pathway for MIBI scans to improve patient outcomes with a direct referral pathway into Cardiology Outpatient services for follow-up of abnormal results. Patients who have an abnormal stress MIBI result will be referred directly to Cardiology for follow up in Specialist Clinics.​

​Neurophysiology Referral

GPs can refer to Western Health for the following investigations:

  • ​​​EEG - routine
  • EEG - sleep deprived
  • EEG - extended video EEG telemetry
  • Evoked response - visual
  • Evoked response - auditory
  • Evoked response - SSEP
  • EMG - nerve conduction studies - Single Fibre & Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Respiratory Lab

Lung function laboratories accredited by the Thoracic  Society of Australian and New Zealand  are based at Sunshine and Footscray Hospital.  

Referrals

GP referrals are accepted for basic spirometry, lung volume testing and DLCO (gas transfer). Referrals for Respiratory Lab should be made using the Request for Lung Function Test  Referral Form

Please fax completed form to 9318 6342.

​Requests for more complex studies such as asthma provocation testing and oxygen testing should be sent to Adult Specialist Clinics​ for review by  a Respiratory Physician​ who will then arrange a referral if appropriate. 

In the case of a life threatening emergency, call 30020.
