Transplant Assessment

CKD patients who are deemed eligible by the Renal Team commence their workup for transplantation before they reach End Stage Kidney Disease. Primarily, it is ideal if the patient has a close relative, partner or friend who is willing to donate a kidney, especially before any dialysis is initiated.  All eligible patients and relatives will have their initial assessment conducted at Western Health, and in partnership with The Royal Melbourne Hospital, the remaining surgical and physician assessment will be completed at RMH.  The surgery and immediate post operative care will be at RMH, and the patient will return to Western Health for ongoing transplant management in the first 2 months of their post- transplant care.
