Better Health Plan for the West
The Better Health Plan for the West (BHPW) is a partnership of over 20 agencies across primary care, acute health, government, social support and other sectors delivering services in the Western Region of Melbourne. BHPW is a ten year plan to shape the way local health services respond to the complex needs of one of Australia’s fastest growing and most diverse regions.
The overarching goal of the BHPW is healthy and engaged communities in the West, with the focus on three high priority health issues:

Mental Health

Cardiovascular disease; Obesity; Diabetes

Cancer.
The BHPW identifies seven objectives that are fundamental to supporting the goal of “healthy and engaged communities in the West”:

Improve health literacy;

Deliver services that are inclusive and culturally appropriate;

Provide services that are well coordinated, easy to access and navigate;

Attract, retain and share outstanding staff in the West;

Maximise and grow resources;

Develop a research program focused around health priority areas; and
-
Utilise e-health and communications technology
Western Health is the auspice organisation for Better Health Plan for the West. The Chair of the BHPW Steering Group is Western Health’s Dr Arlene Wake, Executive Director Community Integration, Allied Health and Service Planning.

Member organisations on the CEO-level Steering Group are cohealth, Department of Health and Human Services, Djerriwarrh Health Services, HealthWest, Melbourne Primary Care Network, Isis Primary Care, LeadWest, North Western Mental Health and Werribee Mercy.
