Psychology

We support people struggling with emotional, mental, behavioural or cognitive problems, providing assessment, treatment and management in both hospital and clinic-based settings.

What we do

At Western Health, psychologists work across many of our clinical services including within our:

  • specialist medical and surgical inpatient wards and outpatient clinics
  • inpatient and community mental health services
  • drug health services
  • community health at home and rehabilitation programs
  • paediatric outpatient services.

Our psychologists work with people experiencing a wide range of emotional, mental, cognitive (thinking) and behavioural concerns. We provide assessment, treatment and support for patients in both hospital (inpatient) and clinic-based (outpatient) settings. 

Some of the conditions our team helps assess and manage include: 

  • anxiety, depression or emotional distress
  • difficulties with memory, attention or concentration
  • issues with anger or frustration
  • symptoms of trauma, such as panic attacks, flashbacks, nightmares and hopelessness
  • coping with pain
  • struggling with a diagnosis
  • difficulties deciding on treatment or staying on treatment
  • palliative care and end-of-life decisions.

Referrals

Please note: Only internal referrals are accepted for all psychology services at Western HealthPlease speak to any of your treating medical or health professionals at Western Health and ask for a referral.

After you have been referred, one of our psychologists will then contact you to make an appointment.
