"Hiking the Larapinta Trail was a bucket-list experience. Not only did we get to see one of the most culturally significant parts of Australia, we also raised funds to support cancer patients in Melbourne’s West."

A group of 14 have conquered the Larapinta Trail in the Northern Territory, raising money for Western Health’s cancer patients along the way.

The group departed Alice Springs on 10 June for the five day, 60 kilometre hike that followed the West MacDonnell Ranges. Taking in amazing views from the summit of Mount Sonder, the group also learnt about traditional indigenous bush plants and observed the stars. Joining the trek was long-time Foundation supporter and fundraiser, Fiona Henderson.

“Whenever one of us needed that extra kick of motivation to get through, there was always someone who took on the role of cheerleader to keep you going,” said Fiona.

“Hiking the Larapinta Trail was a bucket-list experience. Not only did we get to see one of the most culturally significant parts of Australia, we also raised funds to support cancer patients in Melbourne’s West.”

Together, the group has raised more than $63,000 to date in support of Western Health’s cancer patients. 100 per cent of the funds raised will go towards care packs for those receiving treatment.

We respectfully acknowledge the Arrernte people as the Traditional Custodians of the Central and Western Arrernte Country which includes the Larapinta Trail and the West MacDonnell region.
