  • Arabic
  • Burmese
  • Cantonese
  • Croatian
  • Greek
  • Italian
  • Mandarin

  • Spanish
  • Vietnamese

For other languages, including AUSLAN requests, we source certified interpreters through an agency.

Accessing an interpreter

If you need an interpreter, you can let us know when you arrive at any of our hospitals, or you can call us on (03) 8345 7148 (Monday to Friday, 8:30am–5pm).

Outside of these hours, you can use the telephone interpreting service (available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week).

Why you might need an interpreter

If you or your loved one is not comfortable communicating in English, an interpreter can help ensure that you receive clear and accurate information about your care.

Our interpreter services are available to help you:

  • understand your health condition and treatment options
  • communicate clearly with your care team
  • know your rights and responsibilities
  • make informed decisions about your care.

In the case of a life threatening emergency, call 30020.
