Enrolled Nurse Graduate Program (ENGP)
Western Health’s Enrolled Nurse Graduate Program has been developed for first year Enrolled Nurses to assist them with consolidating already learnt theoretical and practical clinical knowledge and skills within a supported environment, whilst preparing them for their future career progression.
About the Program
The Enrolled Nurse Graduate Program (ENGP) aims to facilitate the transition from novice practitioner to a confident, competent Enrolled Nurse. During this Program, Graduates are supported by the clinical expertise of their colleagues, Clinical Nurse Educators and Preceptors. It is a structured program including paid study days, education and debriefing sessions which strongly focusses on clinical reasoning and decision-making, patient management and professional practice, whilst aligning with Western Health core values.

Program Intake
No program intake in 2025.
Orientation (3-days)
Structured Orientation Program, consisting of:
- 1 x Organisational Orientation Program (Day 1)
- 2 x Graduate-specific Study Days (Day 2 & 3)
Clinical Supernumerary Days
- At commencement of the rotation, supernumerary time on allocated ward.
- 4 days
Study Days & Education Sessions
- 2 x additional ENGP Study Days, structured throughout the year
- Regular Debriefing sessions
- Additional Graduate-Specific education sessions
Professional Development Days
- 1 x Professional Development Day, in a clinical area of interest (shadow-shift) or aligned with a Study Day offered by Western Health
Clinical Support
- Assigned Preceptor, member of allocated clinical area
- Assigned Clinical Nurse Educator or Clinical Support Nurse, affiliated with allocated clinical area

Eligibility
Program is designed for 1st year Enrolled Nurses (Division 2).
Successful applicants must hold a valid registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) via the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as an Enrolled Nurse (Division 2).

How many intakes do you offer?
As of 2023, we offer two intake dates: January, May and November. In 2024 there will only be a May and November intake.
Do you offer part and full-time positions?
Currently, we do not offer full-time positions within the Graduate Program.
All Graduates employed at Western Health hold permanent part-time employment (64 hours/fortnight), to ensure work-life balance whilst supporting ongoing study requirements.
Do you have supernumerary days?
Yes!
At the commencement of the rotation, supernumerary time is allocated (4 days in total).
How many clinical rotations do you offer? And how are they allocated?
Currently, Western Health offers 2 rotations within the Enrolled Nurse Graduate Program.
Clinical rotations are allocated based on clinical availability.
Are Graduates able to attend other educational activities within the hospital?
Graduates are encouraged to attend Western Health Professional Development Days facilitated by Education & Learning.
Additionally, there are regular in-services being offered on the clinical area for Graduates to access.
Do you have a Preceptorship Program?
Western Health has a Preceptorship Program, and thus all Graduates are allocated Preceptors within the clinical area to support and mentor you.
Preceptors are experienced nurses who understand the needs of new Graduate Nurses.
Preceptors have specifically trained in the role and they provide a great amount of support and information at the local level. We highly recommend that during the Program you resource from your allocated Preceptor as much as possible.
