Aboriginal recruitment

Western Health is committed to increasing its Aboriginal Workforce.

Western Health is committed to providing culturally safe and appropriate health services to our Aboriginal[i] community. Reflecting the diverse cultural community we serve, we are committed to developing a strong and supportive environment for our Aboriginal workforce, recognising the importance of diversity and the value that brings to our workplace.

Western Health's vision of "together, caring for the west" involves creating partnerships with our local communities. A diverse workforce, which reflects our community, ensures that Western Health is both more responsive to and more capable of meeting the needs of the local community.

In supporting government initiatives, Western Health has developed an Aboriginal Employment Plan that promotes employment strategies and initiatives to grow our Aboriginal workforce. We aim to provide an environment, which is supportive and encouraging for new, existing and future employees.

 Our Aim:

  • develop strategies and policies to remove barriers to support the growth of our Aboriginal workforce
  • developing  work experience opportunities for young Aboriginal students to build their skills and knowledge
  • provide learning and professional development opportunities and career pathways
  • develop and nurture relationships with the Aboriginal communities and stakeholders including education providers, professional associations and Western Health
  • Develop a mentoring program to support Aboriginal employees
